Language Arts 9

This Language Arts course introduces the development of college level writing skills with a focus on literary response and practice in narrative, expository, and persuasive forms of writing. Students embark on a chronological journey of mankind through time in literature, beginning with the epic poem The Odyssey and ending with the novelette Of Mice and Men. Language Arts 9 begins the development of the strong analytical skills necessary for success in later Language Arts and other AP classes. Students will analyze fiction and non-fiction and will be exposed to AP style objective testing and essay writing. Concentration on PSAT and SAT skills will also be a major focus of the course, including but not limited to, the development of vocabulary and critical reading skills.

Prerequisites: Required summer reading: Watership Down. All students also required to purchase their own copy of A Pocket Style Manual 5th Edition by Diana Hacker through the school at a discount.
