Pfeiffer-Burleigh Project

The Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy Green Team continues to spread the message of conservation and energy reduction by teaching elementary students in the Erie City School District how to conduct energy audits in their schools. The goals are to heighten awareness regarding climate change and the use of fossil fuels for energy production. Each school is benchmarked by the students on the Energy Star website to establish a baseline rating. Light and wattage meters and thermal sensors are used to collect, record, and analyze data. Recommendations are made to the faculty and staff and the school is monitored to determine if their Energy Star rating improves over time.

Currently, the Collegiate Green Team is working with Pfeiffer-Burleigh Elementary School students in the after-school CHAMPS Program under the direction of teachers, Doreen Petri and Nikki Benson. The results of the project were presented in the Pfeiffer-Burleigh library on January 12, 2011.
