Woodrow Wilson Middle School CTE Project
This project took on a unique aspect after we went on a tour of the building to investigate the different forms of energy production. We discovered the old coal cellar and the openings in the ceiling of the basement where trucks used to dump coal to fuel the furnace. We then researched the use use of coal as an energy source through time. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using this nonrenewable resource and what renewable resources are available to us. We also watched the NOVA video on the Chilean mining disaster when 33 miners were rescued after the mine collapsed. Each student researched a different form of energy production and wrote papers on how energy impacts their everyday lives.
The presentation given to the Wilson faculty and administration on May 16, 2011 was extremely well recevied. A party held afterward was a lot of fun!
